Young Anglers Discover the Joy of Fishing and Importance of Conservation
This past weekend, young anglers gathered in Puerto Jiménez for an unforgettable day of learning, conservation, and outdoor adventure during the IGFA Passports to Fishing program, hosted by Crocodile Bay in partnership with the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) at Botánika Osa Peninsula, Curio Collection by Hilton.
Introducing the Next Generation to Fishing
Designed specifically for children, Passports to Fishing introduces young people to the exciting world of recreational fishing while teaching the values of conservation, stewardship, and respect for the marine environment. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning stations, participants gain confidence, develop new skills, and build a lifelong appreciation for healthy oceans and sustainable fisheries.
Learning Through Experience
Throughout the day, children learned the fundamentals of fishing, including knot tying, tackle identification, casting techniques, boating safety, responsible catch-and-release practices, fish biology, and marine conservation. At each completed station, they earned stamps in their official IGFA Passports before putting their new skills into practice with experienced instructors and volunteers.
For many of the participants, it was their very first time holding a fishing rod—making the experience even more memorable.
Leadership Behind the Event
The event was spearheaded by Diego Camacho and Selena from Crocodile Bay, whose leadership, organization, and passion helped create an exceptional day for every child involved. Their commitment, along with the support of the Crocodile Bay and Botánika teams, transformed the event into an inspiring introduction to recreational fishing and marine conservation.

FECOP was proud to support the program by providing fishing rods and commemorative participant hats, helping ensure every child had the opportunity to learn, participate, and take home a lasting reminder of the experience.
