May 2025 Fishing Report: An Epic Month of Action and Achievements

May has been an unforgettable month here at Crocodile Bay, with nonstop action on the water,  jaw-dropping catches, and an exciting new event that brought the community and International anglers together like never before.

The  Osa Peninsula home to Crocodile Bay has been on fire in the month of May with very calm seas afternoon showers and lots of good action. The yellowfin tuna bite was absolutely phenomenal this month. We’ve been seeing some monster yellowfin in the 50-200 lb range, with several reports of anglers landing fish that pushed the limits of both their tackle and their patience. Whether trolling or on the live baits, these tuna have been showing up in force, giving anglers a run for their money. If you’re looking for a true trophy fish, May was the month to be out on the water.

As if that wasn’t enough, billfish made an impressive showing in May as well. Both blue marlin and sailfish were spotted throughout the month, with several anglers hooking up and battling these incredible creatures. The action was fast-paced, with multiple billfish releases reported daily. These majestic fish continue to be a highlight for any angler looking for a true challenge, and we couldn’t be more excited about the prospects for the rest of the season. Inshore fishing has been absolutely on fire this month. If you’re into roosterfish, you know this is the time of year to be here. We’ve had some non-stop action along the coast, with anglers catching multiple roosters per trip. These hard-fighting fish are a true test of skill, and the thrill of reeling in one of these beauties never gets old.

Equally exciting was the incredible Cubera snapper bite. We’ve been seeing some fully grown Cuberas, with fish reaching upwards of 50-60 lbs. These toothy predators have been giving anglers
a serious workout and are providing some incredible stories and memories. The combination of roosterfish and Cubera snapper action makes inshore fishing this month a true must-do experience.

May also marked an extraordinary milestone for us as we *hosted the first-ever Battle of the Bay Sportfishing Tournament along with the the Zancudo Lodge and Marina Golfito, this started as a dream to position the Golfo Dulce as a world class International sport fishing tournament destination and With 14 teams participating, it was a thrilling event that brought together anglers from all over the world. From the early morning “lines in” to the final fish weighed in, the energy was unmatched, and the competition was fierce. We are beyond overwhelmed by how successful the tournament was, and the feedback has been amazing. The camaraderie, the passion for the sport, and the sheer enjoyment of the event were palpable all weekend long.

The success of the 2025 Battle of the Bay has us already looking forward to 2026. We can’t wait to bring this tournament back bigger and better, with even more teams and even more action. It was an  event that exceeded all our expectations, and we’re so thankful to everyone who participated and supported it. With May setting the bar so high, we are already buzzing with excitement about what the coming months will bring. Whether you’re targeting trophy tuna offshore, chasing billfish, or enjoying some exciting inshore action, the fishing is going to remain outstanding throughout the green  season here in Costa Rica. Be sure to book your trips early—we can’t wait to host you.
