Crocodile Bay – Fishing Report for October 2022

Crocodile Bay Fishing Report on the Action in October 2022

Imagine you’re on a boat in the Pacific Ocean off the Southern coast of Costa Rica. You are amazed by the beauty of the tropical views. You are enjoying the pristine and relaxing waters. Suddenly one of the reels starts screaming. “Fish on!” yells the mate. He hands the rod to you and your heart starts pounding as you try to guess what fish you might have on the end of line. Is it a giant black marlin, a blue marlin, a sailfish, or a large yellowfin tuna?

You don’t have to imagine anymore. Crocodile Bay can make your fishing dreams come true. The amazing fishing adventures off the coast of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula are the real deal. Crocodile Bay has provided rod-bending fishing expeditions for fishing fanatics from all over the world. Our experienced crews have fishing in their blood and have fished these waters all their lives. We know how to catch fish at Crocodile Bay. And our past guests return year after year because we deliver a fishing adventure found nowhere else.

October was no exception. This month we started to see improving tuna fishing and fewer commercial boats in our waters, because the new law in Costa Rica requires commercial tuna boats to fish 85 miles offshore. Our crews have been bumping into huge schools of tuna which are running with the spinner dolphins only 4 miles offshore, giving our anglers the chance to try different fishing methods that consistently provide results. Guests in October had fun landing yellowfin tuna by casting poppers, jigs, lures as well as live bait.

I personally love the look in our clients faces when they see the boiling waters with tuna feeding on the surface – the true meaning of a feeding frenzy!

The month of October is the beginning of the dorado (mahi-mahi) season, or the “golden season” as we like to call it, and I can say this golden season is starting to shine bright! We had a few days where our anglers were able to land up to 30 dorados in one day of fishing ranging from 15 to 60 lbs. Again, there are not a lot of places in the world that can provide this type of fishing excitement. It is amazing to see mahi chasing our spread and switching from side to side–they are also one of the fastest swimmers in the ocean and it is incredible to see them crush our baits.

In the last week of October we had the honor to host our Botánika owners for the launch of phase 2 of Botánika Osa Peninsula, Curio Collection by Hilton. For the first night we organized a Halloween party and almost all of our guests dressed up. The McDade group had their Flintstone family outfits for the Halloween party – but also thought it would be a fun idea to wear their Halloween costumes for a day of fishing (photo to the left). The rest of the weekend was filled with activities for our Botánika owners, who were able to do fishing, sloth tours, chocolate tours, as well as fun dinners and dancing.

The month of November is a transition month in terms of weather, as we should start to see some really calm sunny days. With a mixed bag of fish biting in October, I can already tell November is going to bring some outstanding fishing inshore and offshore! If you are looking to experience world class fishing with some of the best crews in the fishing industry, Crocodile Bay is the place you want to be. Let’s make those reels scream for mercy!

See you out on the water…
