Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for August 2023

Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for August 2023

Watch our August highlights video below

Greetings from the amazing Osa Peninsula, a Costa Rican paradise and one of the world’s most biodiverse and beautiful destinations! The Osa Peninsula is the home of Crocodile Bay, and our waters offer a wide variety of prized sportfishing species and a team of professionals to guide you to landing your dream fish.

August had a wonderful start to the month with an abundance of roosterfish, ranging from 20 to 60 lbs. Many ask, “What is the most effective way to target roosterfish?” At Crocodile Bay, what sets us apart is our versatility in targeting these prized fish. We use a variety of techniques, from live bait to jigging and casting artificial lures. Throughout August, due to natural debris from the rains and shifting currents, we noticed that roosterfish were more inclined to go for topwater action. Witnessing them leap out of the water to strike the lure is a thrilling experience. Our guests had a blast.

The changes in water temperature in August led to increased billfish activity offshore. The favorable currents made it easier for our captains and mates to locate areas teeming with bait. Yellowfin tuna action remains red-hot here at Crocodile Bay, thanks in part to the new commercial tuna fishing regulations. We’ve been landing yellowfin tuna in the 20 to 30 lbs. range consistently. There’s nothing quite like the excitement on our clients’ faces when they witness a “tuna boil” feeding frenzy, with tuna breaking all over the water’s surface.

Misty Wells from “Let’s Take it Outside”

As mentioned in previous fishing reports, hosting TV shows and content creators is a regular occurrence at Crocodile Bay. In August, we had the privilege of hosting Misty Wells and her show, “Let’s Take it Outside.” We often get questions from female anglers and families about their ability to tackle big fish, and Misty’s visit unequivocally demonstrated that ladies can handle big game fishing with ease.

We welcomed back our good friend Diego Torian with “Pescando los Cayos,” the longest-running Hispanic fishing show. Diego and his TV team show a wealth of knowledge, providing numerous tips and techniques to help you reel in the fish you are searching for.

As September is fast approaching, we expect the arrival of larger dorado, followed closely by everybody’s friend-Mr. Marlin. With our years of experience fishing in Costa Rica, we predict that September will offer outstanding fishing opportunities, including the chance to land the fish of a lifetime. So, prepare your rain gear and make your way to Crocodile Bay, Costa Rica, where we’ll guide you in checking off that bucket list fish this Fall!

We look forward to seeing you in paradise.

Sincerely,

Diego Camacho
