Crocodile Bay will soon open it's doors for the 16th season…

April 2021 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

Strange weather really affected offshore fishing in March 2021. I have seen more rain in this “dry season”, dropping surface temperature and causing a big wad of sailfish to move north early this year. There were a few really good days but the sails just were not consistent. The tuna on the other hand were in no short supply. Most fish ran 40 to 50 lbs but a few over 100 lbs tested some drag washers. Marlin, who are not bothered by the drop in water temperature, did take a few baits making for better than normal March marlin action.

We finished giving our pier a new look just in time for the crowd that came fishing in February. It was really nice to see that kind of movement again after being held back by restrictions for so long. El Niña played with us a bit during this last month as it is usually clear skies, with a flat ocean, and hotter in February.

February 2021 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

January 2021 ended with a beautiful full “Wolf Moon”, and although you would be hard-pressed to find a Wolf in Costa Rica, the friendly neighborhood howler monkeys let anglers know when it was time to rise and shine and head to the boats every morning.

December was a tune-up for the season. It was great to see the movement around the resort again and to see some returning friends and meet some new ones. The captains have been itching to get on the water for months.

March 2020 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

The month started off with a bang, especially inshore when some boats were catching as many as 20 roosterfish a day, above the average of a good day of fishing. Mark Davis was here the first week of the month to film yet another episode of Bigwater Adventures and came out of the gate with a nice blue marlin to start the show.

January starts and ends with a Bang! New Year's Eve is the only day of the year you will find a traffic jam in Puerto Jimenez. Yet, thanks to a generous neighbor, this small beach town has one of the largest, most spectacular NYE fireworks display in all of Costa Rica. Local people come from all over the peninsula to enjoy the lit-up sky.

The month of December, and especially our Christmas week, is family time here at Crocodile Bay Resort in Costa Rica and our staff, along with the fishing crews, always look forward to this time of the year. Many repeat guests have become more like friends than clients over the years as they bring their families to enjoy the holidays at our activity-based resort in the warmer climate. The staff’s dedication to customer service earned Crocodile Bay the distinction of the second-best destination in the world to take a family fishing vacation by Sport Fishing Magazine.

December 2019 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

It has been a while since I’ve done a fishing report, so I hope I am not too rusty. There are some changes in the fishing department at Crocodile Bay.

November 2019 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

Roosterfish, or Nematistius Pectoralis as their Latin name goes, is a hard-fighting and widely sought after gamefish here in Costa Rica. Anglers come from all over the world to Crocodile Bay Resort in search of this prized species. And almost all of our guests have roosterfish at the top of their wish list.In Central America, the roosterfish can only be found on the Pacific side, and they range from southern California down to Peru.

October 2019 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

This month I wanted to do something a little different and touch on some of the new equipment we have coming for our 2019/20 season. On the lure front, we have some great Yo Zuri Bull poppers and Halco Roosta poppers coming in. Both of these poppers have proven effective on the tuna and are even capable of attracting the lure-shy roosterfish.

September 2019 – Costa Rica Fishing Report

August has been an excellent month at Crocodile Bay Resort in Costa Rica! We began with a wide-open tuna bite, as the fish were just a few miles offshore. The dolphins and tuna have been corralling big schools of blue runners and feeding on them voraciously — an excellent opportunity for some great topwater action. The weapons of choice were Williamson, Yo-Zuri and Halco poppers along with live blue runners and goggle eyes.
