Catch the recap from all of our September action as well as a forecast for what’s next!

September is always a special month in Costa Rica—it’s our Independence Month, and the whole country comes alive with celebrations. While parades and fireworks lit up the towns, the real fireworks were happening offshore and inshore on the water.
Offshore Action
If you were chasing big game, September did not disappoint. The Yellowfin Tuna bite was red-hot, with our crews finding multiple schools running with porpoises. Everything seemed to line up perfectly: clear mornings, plenty of bait, and tuna ready to eat. Anglers battled tuna from 40 lbs. to well over 100 lbs., and every trip brought something new. Whether casting poppers, jigging deep, or trolling, the action stayed consistent. Few sights compare to a yellowfin exploding on a surface lure—or feeling that heavy, steady pull after a jig connects.

Inshore Adventures
Closer to shore, the Roosterfish stole the show. Guests landed fish over 50 pounds, and these powerful fighters reminded everyone why they’re a bucket-list species. Roosters fight dirty, pull hard, and never give up. Watching someone battle their first big rooster—especially when it makes a run for the rocks—is always unforgettable. Inshore fishing this month required patience and persistence, but those who stuck with it were rewarded with incredible catches.

Looking Ahead
As the month wrapped up, we began seeing more billfish activity, especially sailfish with the occasional marlin making an appearance. That’s a strong signal that October will kick off billfish season in style. If you’ve been dreaming of chasing sails or tangling with a blue, now’s the time to start planning—things are about to heat up even more.

Final Thoughts
September brought the action—offshore tuna battles, inshore rooster wars, and just enough excitement to keep everyone coming back for more. It was a month to remember, and October is shaping up to be even better.
