Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for April, 2024

Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for April, 2024

Watch our April fishing highlights video below.

At Crocodile Bay, April marks the shift from dry to green season, and with it comes fantastic fishing. From monster yellowfin tuna to roosterfish, April offers a bounty of fishing opportunities. As the rain begins to fall onto the Osa Peninsula, it creates current lines offshore, along with debris like logs and branches. These floating debris patches serve as feeding grounds for monster fish, attracting baitfish and offering anglers the chance to catch their dream fish on a popper or live bait.

Big News! In our ongoing commitment to improving the fishing experience at Crocodile Bay, we’re proud to introduce our 1st addition of new line of premium fleet vessels at Crocodile Bay in collaboration with Front Runner Boats. Say hello to our 36´ boat: War Dogs. Equipped with triple 300 HP Mercury Racing outboard motors, these vessels have top-of-the-line electronics and fishing tackle, ideal for chasing FADs or landing that monster fish.

Our captains have been spot-on in identifying the prime fishing spots, giving our clients multiple chances to hook up with big fish. Yellowfin tuna stole the spotlight in April. April tuna ranged from 40 to 150 lbs of pure muscle. If you’ve never battled a yellowfin, get ready for an epic tug-of-war. And trust me, the reward of having your fresh catch go from boat to table for an amazing meal is an experience you don’t want to miss. Our talented chefs will make it happen.

Here in the Osa Peninsula, yellowfin tuna often travel in large schools, shadowing porpoises. They can be caught with live baits like blue runners, goggle eyes, and bonitas. Lures are popular too, especially a surface popper!

Thanks to recent government fishing reforms, our yellowfin tuna fishery is thriving, providing anglers with frequent opportunities to catch these monsters. April was a strong month for tuna at Crocodile Bay, with our fleet getting our guests on the Yellowfin every day.

While the Sailfish season typically winds down in April, we’ve enjoyed consistent action throughout the month. Doubles and triples were not uncommon, offering anglers plenty of chances to test their skills.

We were thrilled to host Costa Rican fishing influencers, Charly from “The Kraken” and Heber from “Pescando Con Heber”. Their visit was marked by memorable catches, including Charly’s 120 lb Yellowfin Tuna capture in under 4.5 minutes—a moment captured on video– so you can see it for yourself.

There are opportunities for billfish around Crocodile Bay year ‘round. Weather transitions, like those in early May, often trigger ideal billfish action. So, take advantage of our special fishing promotions and head down to Crocodile Bay. Let our crews show you why we’re recognized worldwide as one of the premier sport fishing destinations in the Pacific.

See you in paradise,

Diego,
Fishing Director
