Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for July, 2024

July never disappoints! We were spoiled with great weather and outstanding fishing, both inshore and offshore. With the rains moving in, the current lines and debris are getting stronger, giving our captains an advantage in finding the best fishing grounds.

July was a yellowfin tuna extravaganza month. Every day, our crews found multiple schools of yellowfin tuna, giving our anglers plenty of chances to hook and land these monsters using various techniques like live baits, trolling lures, or casting topwater lures. While yellowfin tuna typically range between 20 and 150 lbs, this July surprised us with some real sea monsters. The biggest yellowfin tuna weighed in at 180 lbs, landed by the Wheatland family from Texas, who came with the goal of catching a big yellowfin tuna—and our captains delivered.

Another highlight of the month was the blue marlin bite. With all those schools of yellowfin tuna in the neighborhood, the blue marlin were making appearances, feeding on the smaller tunas and surprising our anglers while trolling or tossing live baits. Blue marlin are incredibly fast and strong, coming into your spread in seconds. Seeing them swallow our baits is an experience you have to live, and here at Crocodile Bay, we can make it happen.

In July, most of the rain comes in the afternoons when we are back from fishing, so you can expect calm seas and sunny weather. Still, it’s wise to bring a rain jacket just in case. But rest assured, the fishing will be amazing.

Inshore, the bite has been fantastic, with fully grown roosterfish and monster cubera snapper ranging between 30 and 60 lbs. These are the top two trophies we target inshore, but if dinner is on your mind, we can always target delicious species like various snappers, African pompano, groupers, and even smaller tuna. Now, with two culinary experiences from Crocodile Bay—Hard Croc and Botanika’s main restaurant, Tierra a la Mesa—fresh caught meals going from ocean to plate doesn’t get any fresher.

Crocodile Bay is also a special place for hosting corporate events. In July, we were honored to host Matt Emeterio and his team from Pure Fishing (Penn). Their goal was to cast artificial lures to the schools of yellowfin tuna, and they succeeded, landing multiple yellowfin tunas ranging between 30 and 90 lbs, all on topwater lures.
