The year 2020 was, to say the least, a challenge. Costa Rica, like many other countries on our planet, had to face a world-wide pandemic head-on. But few countries have been as successful in flattening the curve as this colorful country. The key for Costa Rica was its quick response and how seriously the government took the situation right from the beginning.

Crocodile Bay Resort is situated comfortably on the blue waters of the Golfo Dulce. We are known as an activity-based destination with the largest private fleet of boats in all of Central America, a fleet that includes Boston Whaler 24’ center consoles and Strike Yachts 33’ and 35′ tower boats that are easily accessible from our 800-foot private pier. This means that you will have the opportunity to explore places on the water where no one else can take you. Just take a short walk down to our pier and off you go on an ocean safari of your choosing.

Crocodile Bay Resort is located next to the small village of Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. On the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, we have two distinct whale migrations: the Southern Antarctic humpback whale (July to November) and the California humpback whale (December to April). Our tropical fiord, the Golfo Dulce, plays a primary role in attracting these giants of the sea, as the warm and clean waters of this gulf make it ideal for raising and nursing the whale calves. When the calf is born, it needs warm waters to accumulate energy as it begins to discover the world around it.

Sportfishing Calendar

January

Tuna, marlin and dorado taper off. Number of sailfish begins to increase.

February

Prime time for sailfish. Occassional marlin, tuna or dorado.

March

Prime time for sailfish.

April

Sailfish numbers drop mid-April and some marlin begin to appear.

May

Slower for billfish. Typically we start seeing schools of spinner dolphins with yellowfin tuna.

June

Slower for billfish. Spinner dolphins with yellowfin tuna.

July

Marlin begin to appear. A chance for black marlin as well as blues and striped marlin. A chance for tuna.

August

Marlin and tuna.

September

Slower for billfish. A chance for tuna and dorado.

October

Dorado begin to appear in numbers with marlin close behind.

November

A mixed bag of dorado, marlin and some big tuna.

December

Marlin, dorado, tuna and sailfish are all possibilities.
