Costa Rica Weddings at Crocodile Bay Resort

Read an excerpt from a recent press release about a surprise Costa Rica wedding at Crocodile Bay Resort, Costa Rica

costa rica weddingsFor Immediate Release – Just imagine…you receive a wedding invitation…and it is to your own wedding. This rare occurrence actually took place at Crocodile Bay Resort, Costa Rica in an area renowned to be the most biologically intense place on Earth – The Osa Peninsula.

All of us at one time or another have participated in or, perhaps it is more accurate to say has been the victim of, a surprise party or announcement.

Most popular are surprise birthday parties…followed by surprise anniversaries, or congratulatory receptions.

Of course there is also the risky business of surprising someone you love with a marriage proposal, this is usually done in all kinds of creative settings and manners; and we have seen these go very well…and sometimes we have seen these go horribly wrong.

But when is the last time you have actually witnessed a lady attending a surprise wedding…her own wedding? Now that’s a scenario that would take the proverbial cake…the wedding cake that is.

costa rica wedding destinationAs you can imagine; the logistics of pulling off a surprise wedding are paramount…and to complicate matters; the victim in this story, Silvie Spakova, has a 7 year old daughter (Sophie) who would never be able to keep such a secret from her mother…and the deal with the groom to be (David Belinko) has always been that Sophie must first grant permission for her mother’s hand. This was actually the weak link in the whole plot.

The first challenge was to convince Silvie to allow herself to be filmed in a whimsical setting walking along a beach in Costa Rica with Sophie. This supposedly was to be used for a promotional video to encourage family tourism to one of the most exotic destinations on Earth, and a fishing and adventure lodge that typically caters to professional anglers and adventure seekers. Silvie agreed and so the stage was set.

Dressed in smart casual tropical attire with the ocean as a backdrop Silvie is presented with an envelope which the director of the promotional video, Christopher Graham, gave to Sophie. When Silvie opens the envelop she realizes that she is reading the invitation to her wedding taking place at this exact hour and place; a beach appropriately named Plaja Preciosa or Precious Beach in English.P1000249

Just a few meters away friends and family are gathered in hiding; waiting for Silvie and Sophie to come upon the gathering; the rest is blissful history.

Chocolate is the world’s first love and one of the most valuable cash crops on the international market, and not only is it great to eat but it is also a wonderful ingredient to include in your skincare regimen. Few people would think that so many uses could be gained from chocolate. Cocoa is an important crop for Costa Rica. It is a sustainable crop because it grows in tropical areas under heavy rainforest canopy and does not require clearing large areas to grow; it is a crop that fits in with Costa Rica’s micro farming. It was known as the “food of the gods” in ancient cultures. Continue reading

Spa treatments using fresh fruits and vegetables is a growing international trend. Clients are requesting more holistic and natural treatments, and luxury spas such as Crocodile Bay have been on the cutting edge of providing these services.  With an abundance of locally grown fruit, Costa Rica’s tropical environment is ideal for such treatments.  Besides, a massage and facial with fruit is a great way to unwind before dinner after a long day of offshore fishing or hiking in the rainforest.

Vitamins are the secret to youthful radiant skin. Not only do you want to eat your vitamins but applying them topically is loaded with benefits.  Fruits and vegetables have been used throughout the ages for skincare, and while most of us are use to applying things that come in a jar to our skin, you can also go straight to the produce aisle. Of course, great skin starts with eating right but a topical treatment could give your skin that extra boost it needs to really glow.  Continue reading

Aloe Vera: Nature’s Miracle Plant

Aloe Vera Plant

I first came in contact with Aloe Vera when I was a little girl vacationing in Arizona. The strong vibrant green plant grew wild in the southwest desert. When I got a sunburn, my Mom would go outside and pick some Aloe Vera, squeeze the gel from the plant and apply it to my skin. Immediately the sting from my sunburn faded as the cool gel of the Aloe Vera settled into my skin. Today, I prefer an Aloe Vera wrap and massage at a spa after a long day outdoors to unwind and relax.

Aloe Vera has been used for thousands of years for its healing properties and as an ancient secret to radiant skin. The plant is native to the Southern part of Africa. Over the last 6,000 years the plant has spread across the world and can now be found growing wild just about anywhere with warm climates that are frost free. Since the ancient Egyptians and Greeks, Aloe Vera has been used as both a medicine and beauty aid. Continue reading
